What does it mean to be a Saturn Certified car?
· A tough mechanical inspection, inside and out. Depending on the year and the miles, Saturn cars are classed as Red, Green or Blue Label vehicles. Each car prominently displays (unless it falls down or is captured by creatures from Venus - hey, it happens) the window label
· Full disclosure about the vehicle. The inspection checklist, reconditioning repair orders issued and any other relevant information are available if you'd care to look. I can even pull a vehicle history detailing all repairs performed on the car at Saturn facilities.
· 3 day, 150 mile money back guarantee (for any reason). There's also a 30 day/1,500 mile Trade-In policy on Certified cars: If for any reason you're not completely satisfied, you can bring the car back and receive full credit towards the purchase of another car. Of course some limitations apply: you can't smash the car and bring it back or get a full refund. Anything over $300.00 and it gets deducted from your refund or credit. You would expect that, I think.
· Trade in? We revolutionized the industry with our open, honest approach.
There are two labels you'll notice on our used cars:

Three-day money back guarantee.
1. 30 day/1,500 mile limited powertrain warranty: From the day you buy the car, the warranty covers the cost of repairs to specified components of the engine, transaxle, and front/rear-wheel drive. The number one thing I hear from customer after customer is "I don't want to buy somebody else's problem." All of us have purchased something that didn't meet our expectations. Used cars certainly bring their share of potential problems; not to mention the really great reputation associated with used car sales, service, promises, etc. Another way Saturn help's folks be more comfortable is our money back used car guarantee. Goes like this:
If not completely satisfied - for any reason- customers can return the car within 3 days or 150 miles of delivery to select another car or to receive a full refund.
When I worked for Ford, the trade process was a bit mysterious. No one, especially the customer, was ever quite sure of the final value on the trade. Sure, people came armed with all sorts of third-party book values, but did they ever really know my real price? If I tell you I'm giving you $4,000.00 for your trade, can you trust the number? Are you really getting the best value for your trade?
At Saturn, you get an open, honest price. In fact, we'll buy the car from you for the price that we quote you - even if you don't buy a car from us. We call this the actual cash value of the car. The The price does NOT change depending on what car you look at or what day of the week it is. How do we determine the price?
1. Fill out the evaluation form. Basic information like year, make, model and any other important info like accidents, body work and recent repairs.
2. You meet the evaluator. Riding along is an option, if you'd like.
3. Determination of value. We consult various third party sources, auction reports and consider any reconditioning costs (tires, brakes, cigarette smoke removal) before giving you a number.
Will you be happy with the figure? Maybe, maybe not. I want you to be sure you understand how and why we got the actual cash price. No, it's not a retail figure. It is an honest price based on the market value, overall condition of the car, needed repairs, reconditioning, cost of doing business (financing, sales commissions) and standing behind the car if anything goes wrong.

carfax™ and service histories:
how we help you feel secure buying
a used vehicle
Used car buyers typically and understandably feel a bit nervous. The phrase "buying someone else's problem" is around and known to car shoppers everywhere. I understand. Really. I've bought used cars for myself and I understand the dilemma of essentially trusting the previous owner's tenacity at following recommended maintenance, avoiding accidents and so on.
Carfax and service histories provide a more complete picture of the car and treatment of the car so you can buy with confidence. Add in the certification process and you have even more reasons to feel secure about your purchase.
Carfax:
As a Carfax dealer, we have access
to over 1 billion motor vehicle records. Carfax maintains a national
database of title histories and, in
What does Carfax check?
Flood, salvage, odometer
rollback, manufacturer buyback (lemon law cars), and major accident
reports filed with state motor vehicle departments all across the
service history:
Saturn corporation maintains a national database service history on all vehicles. Regardless of the type or location of service, a record is kept. I can show you all service/warranty/recall work performed on the vehicle as long as it was performed at a Saturn retailer. Now, some people prefer to have minor services (like oil changes) done with a neighborhood mechanic or national quick-change chain (like Jiffy Lube) and reserve their Saturn retailer for warranty work or major problems. Saturn only records service performed at an authorized Saturn retailer.
How certification, carfax & service histories can work together for you:
Let's say you're looking at a
1998 Saturn SL2 with 35,219 miles. The window sticker shows an in-service
date (when the car was first sold and registered as a private or lease vehicle)
of
(1) Carfax
verifies the accuracy of the vehicle identification number, the current
mileage, previous owners and title history. From Carfax, you know that
the car was purchased in
(2) The service history shows a good history of oil changes and regular maintenance. All recalls have been performed as directed.
(3)
Certification gives you specifics on the level of wear on the tires, brakes and
the general condition of the car. You can see what we replaced and why.
The certification also notes any major dents or scratches. You also
receive an extension of the original manufacturer's warranty for 4 years from
the original in-service date (
You now know a lot more about the 1998 Saturn and you can, I hope, feel more comfortable about your purchase. There may still be some dents, scratches and personality marks but that's part and parcel of buying a used car. Security and knowledge are part of the process, too.
